Paddack chosen for leadership role

2012-11-28

Sen. Susan Paddack has been elected to the post of State Director for Women In Government, a non-partisan organization of women state legislators from across the county.  Paddack, D-Ada, will be officially sworn in at the 19th annual State Directors’ and 10th Biennial First Term Legislators’ Conference in January.

Marjorie Maginn is the current President and Executive Director of Women In Government, which serves all 1,746 women state legislators from across the country.  She said Paddack was elected to her new post by her fellow legislative colleagues this past year and offered her congratulations.

“State Directors play a critical role in setting policy priorities for our organization.  Senator Paddack is a recognized leader in Oklahoma, and we are excited that she will now share her leadership skills with other women policymakers throughout the country,” Maginn said.

During the national conference, women legislators will hear from experts on a variety of public policy topics and learn how those issues impact states.  Those topics will include several healthcare issues states like Oklahoma are facing, including healthcare reform, diabetes, cervical cancer prevention, childhood obesity as well as other issues ranging from energy policy to economic security as well as the current status of women legislators.

“I am honored to have been selected by my peers to serve as State Director for this outstanding organization,” Paddack said.  “Having the opportunity to see what other states are doing and how my colleagues are approaching these public policy concerns bolsters the resources Oklahoma has, and widens our options for resolving the challenges we face in the months and years to come.”

The national conference will be held January 3 through 5 in St. Pete Beach, Fla.
